Barokksolistene on stage

Barokksolistene has developed a strong profile within theatre, opera, and interdisciplinary performance, and we regularly collaborate with opera houses, theatres, and dance companies.

Our work in early opera combines musical depth with a strong focus on drama, physicality and rhetoric, often favouring chamber-music interaction and shared responsibility on stage over traditional hierarchies.

Our productions of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas are part of our core repertoire. Other productions have included Handel’s Alcina at The Norwegian Opera (2014), a staged Messiah (directed by Netia Jones) at Bergen National Opera (2017), a collaboration on A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Haugesund Theatre (2019) and the first Norwegian performance of Telemann’s Orpheus (directed by Stefan Herheim) at The Norwegian Opera (2024).

Alongside opera, we work extensively with choreographers and dancers, creating productions where music and movement are developed together from the outset. These projects reflect our broader artistic vision: early music as a fully embodied performing art, integrated with contemporary stage practice and open to new forms of expression.
